Newsworthy
The Folsom Pro Rodeo is partnering with The Sacramento Sheriff’s Rodeo to bring you an extra day of rodeo fun this July! “The Folsom Pro Rodeo is thrilled about this partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s and is excited to bring y’all a fourth night of rodeo,” the Folsom Chamber of Commerce said in a statement. (Folsom Times)
A man who was painting near the gazebo at Lions Park on Thursday was the victim of an allegedly unprovoked attack by two homeless individuals. According to police, the suspects kicked and punched the victim more than 50 times, while using homophobic slurs. According to the Folsom Telegraph “the suspects were contacted in the area and identified as Zakari Ankobia Newton-Allen, 22, and Ashley Nicole Archer, 35. The pair were booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for felony battery, assault charges and a hate crime.”
Ryan Stiles, Jeff Davis and Greg Proops are coming to Folsom. For those of you who never saw “Who’s Line Is It Anyway”… these guys are hilarious! According to ABC10 “audience participation is key to the show.” The group is coming to the Harris Center on August 20 & 21. The cast will be rounded out by Bill Murray’s younger brother Joel.
Hey! Did you know?
This would be a great year to teach your kids to fish. And if you do it on either July 6 or August 31, you don’t even have to get them a fishing license! According to the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, those two days are Free Fishing Days! “Free Fishing Days provide a great, low-cost way to give fishing a try.”
Folsom Historical Society has a YouTube channel! When I was a kid, watching history on TV was WAY better than reading about it in a textbook. I guess I’m still a kid at heart! These videos are pretty interesting. I’d much rather watch them with my coffee in the morning than try to choke down a history book after dinner.
Hap’nins
Hey! I didn’t know Poor Red’s had live music! But they do. At least they do on Sunday, April 21 when they will feature the Jamokes - “Great rock and roll covers!!” All that and a Gold Cadillac! I’m in!
Make the elephants happy while making yourself happy at Happy Hour at the Sacramento Zoo! “A variety of delicious food options as well as both non-alcoholic and adult beverages will be available for separate purchase the night of the event.” Choose from April 18, May 16 or June 13 for your libations with the leopards.
With positions like pumpers and pushers, I’m sure I’ll be writing a few more blurbs about this before the time comes, but the Folsom Handcar Derby is coming to Broadstone Marketplace May 4 & 5! “Each team of five has one shot to be the best in their division and set the fastest time.” Spectators are welcome at the spectacle. Admission is free.
… And Stuff
It’s asparagus ice cream time in San Joaquin County! The Asparagus Festival is in full swing this weekend. “Stroll down the vendor fair to snack on $12 deep-fried asparagus and $4 asparagus ice cream.” If asparagus confections aren’t your bag, there are also monster truck rides and a petting zoo among other attractions.
