Newsworthy
Another one bites the dust. Cantina Pedregal is closing. That makes about the 127th restaurant in that space to close its doors. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the owners have decided to introduce another Nixtaco in the space, instead. They own the one in Roseville and think it would be a fabulous idea to open a second one here in Folsom. “Known for its in-house nixtamalization process and scratch-made cuisine, Nixtaco has received national acclaim, including a feature in Food & Wine naming it one of the best taco restaurants in the country,” wrote the Folsom Times. You still have a chance to catch the fare at Cantina Pedregal until April 19. (Folsom Times)
In other restaurant news… Vietnamese chain Saigon Alley Kitchen+Bar has opened a new location in Broadstone Marketplace. “Items exclusive to Folsom include shaken beef saltado, classic bun bo hue, oxtail bun bo hue and Saigon Alley’s first kids menu,” per ABC10. This is the third restaurant in the chain, but won’t be the last. The owner has promised that there will “absolutely” be more locations.
I guess Mother Nature isn’t thrilled with the city planning in Lincoln. She deposited a tornado at the doorstep of the city planning manager! “Several oak trees were uprooted, including a very old oak that fell on his family’s home, causing severe damage and crushing his car,” according to Gold Country Media. Thankfully, no one was harmed by the twister.
Hey! Did you know?
If you like tea and scenery, you’ll love the River Fox Train this spring! They have two different tea experiences awaiting you. Do a boba tea tasting train ride, or indulge in an afternoon tea train. You can even add champagne to your afternoon tea for an extra charge.
If you want to venture out as the weather gets more inviting, why not explore some of the cute little towns around here? Visit Placer has a guide to Loomis, Rocklin and Newcastle to get you started. (Is that little dude drinking a beer??)

April 13 is Sunday Family Fun Day at Out of Bounds Craft Kitchen and Biergarten. “Join us in kicking off our Sunday Family Funday series with a magical performance from renowned magician Kirby Romine! Also featuring Magic Dragon Face Painting! All ages welcome! Free admission!”
Explore the MOSAC Museum while tasting California wines at Sip & Support on April 26. “VIP ticketholders will discover the secrets of using exquisite local ingredients, like luxurious Tsar Nicoulai Caviar. A splash of bubbly is the perfect pairing.”
The American River Conservancy is hosting a Poppy Walk on April 6. “With glowing orange fields overlooking the crystal water of the South Fork of the American River, the stunning contrasts and vibrant colors are a sight few have the good fortune to witness.”
… And Stuff
ICYMI: A mama duck is content tonight with her brood in tow, thanks to an alert Folsom animal control officer. The officer happened to be in the “right” place at the right time when she saw a mama duck leading her babies across the road. They made it safely to the other side, but several of the ducklings mis-navigated the storm drain on the other side and fell through the grate. The ACO called for a backup and the two of them were able to rescue the errant li’l guys and send them back to their mother for a right good scolding. Awwwwww (Folsom PD Facebook)
