Newsworthy
It’s official. The City Council took the needed steps to put the sales tax initiative on the November ballot. According to the Folsom Times “council members passed Resolution No. 11207 to formally place the citizen-led “Folsom Residents Public Safety and Quality of Life” measure on the November 2024 ballot to allow Folsom voters to decide on a special sales tax that would fund a number of designated needs across the city.” If the voters pass the initiative, the funds will be allocated for specific purposes, including police & fire, parks & trails and infrastructure among other things.
The Folsom VFW will stay in their current digs for a while longer - maybe up to 20 years, based on a lease agreement they negotiated with the city. According to the Folsom Telegraph the negotiated rate is $6,000 per year. “Folsom Post No. 6604 has consistently paid their monthly lease rate and done their part to care for and maintain the property,” city staff said in their report to the City Council. I guess it pays to be a good tenant.
The Powerhouse Pub is 25 years old! The pub’s grand opening was May 1, 1999, and I bet they partied like it was 1999! According to ABC10 the “controlled-chaos party environment [at Powerhouse] provides patrons with sensory overload that is impossible to forget, but staff also operate with an emphasis on safety and security…. There is reportedly always an owner on site.” With 5 bars, 3 stages and 2 patios, I hope it’s an owner that likes to party!
Hey! Did you know?

I think the tagline of this one should be “get high in the highlands!” Boeger Winery, Edio Vineyards at Delfino Farms, Element 79 Vineyards, Gwinllan Estate, Lava Cap Winery, Madroña Vineyards, Miraflores Vineyards & Winery and Starfield Vineyards are participating in the second Sierra Highlands Mountain Wine Summit on June 2. Delfino Farms is hosting and you’re invited! (Village Life)

… And Stuff
This one would be very sad if it wasn’t so frightening. A community has lost its emotional support ALLIGATOR! Yep. Wally the Gator was used to getting hugs and treats in his “native” Philadelphia. Unfortunately, while away on vacation with his owner, the gator was kidnapped. Neighbors who saw the kidnapped alligator called authorities, who captured him and set him loose in a swamp. At this point, Wally may be gator food, but his owner is still hoping to find him and give him a huge welcome home hug and a toothy kiss…. (Nice News)
